Morning:
Today was another early wake up call at 6am!
no breakfast..(aside from chowing down some crumpets)
We had to walk all the way back to the cellphone place to drop the xerox forms for the phone rental.
While on the way there.. we had to cross the streets - which was scary as hell but as we keep doing it, it's becoming a little more comfortable each time.
Afternoon:
We stopped by the handy craft expo today ... got a killer deal on a nicely painted paper machet keepsake box. The handicraft expo has aggressive sellers who will go to any extent to make the sale..the guy was trying to press 3000rs for a broken box (hinge was hanging off!!)...Knocked him down to 1200rs with repair & cleaning....Monika got more deals on shawls ..(a really cool one for her couch )
Came back to the house...forgot to remind dad to get more tonic water and milk lol...at least we made it crossing the insane streets to see another day in Pune! Only a few more days till Palace on Wheels!
Just relaxed today and caught up with the blog.
Monika is driving me insane today!
We helped dad dye his hair today..he accidently put his cigarette out in the dye lol!
night:
as we headed out the door to go get monikas cell phone set up we decided tonight we will just grab some food at the local pizza hut *yes they're in India*
After stopping my the local cellphone hut... we stopped by the next hut.. the local pizza hut! This required us to pass one hell of a busy street.. (the drivers are relentless!).
The pizza hut..was packed with tooonnnsss of people! We had to get on a waiting to list to be seated!
While waiting for the list to cut down..we observed the crowds of people..I noticed a bookshelf inside what seemed like an Indian borders having Gandhi's biography along with many famous Indian books + authora intermixed with Mein Kompf lol. Ironic.
Along with people watching... I also seized the opportunity to ditch my slightly ripped pair of socks which was given away to a beggar who immediately put it on ...(pretty cool).
Once we finally were seated in the pizza hut ..I was astonished to find so many Indians eating inside the restaurant.. the radio playing a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Creed!
Our menus we're chalked full with items,entrees,appetizers,deserts...it was mind blowing to think it was just a regular pizza hut....despite the great appearance and lovely menu...the service was terrible!!!
the food took forever to come...the menu was misleading..the manager was useless and wouldn't even come resolve an issue..the drink had a hair in it...the waiting tooooook for ever. The pizza..not bad. It was an Indian styled pizza.. a bit spicey but a good consistency nonetheless.
As we were eating my dad began to tell us how when the first Pizza hut came to India no one used it and the menu was weak.. that was 98' now in 2011...the pizza hut is the hit of the town..or at least the Indians attempting to sheepishly follow the American lifestyle.
kind of a sad thing to see when people will put status and brand over the way in which they're treated..especially when it's one of such a highly respected culture-ethnicity.
today i learned how to ask how are you "atsihi"
which should hopefully follow with im good "teakhi" then askin and you "neahhi"
i learned how to say thank you "shookrea"
i learned how to say shut up (mainly for monika) "choop"
we also learned that "banjo" is a bad Indian word.. (my sister called me this due to me calling her "ben-gi" meaning sister)
saw dead rat on road tonight and a huge roach in the room which I killed!
